Summer Newsletter

6th Jun 2025
It's been another very busy few months at St. Laurence O'Toole's Specialist School.

Creative Adventures!

The past few months have been filled with creativity at SLOT2! We are part of Creative Schools and our fantastic Creative Associate, Fiona, has helped students to sample pottery and mask-making. Students have created amazing pieces, varying from pots to scultped self-portrait!
We also had Shane Ha, an amazing graffiti artist come in to work with students to bring their design ideas to life on the walls of our school. Students had a great time learning about spray painting techniques and we are incredibly proud of the artwork that now adorns our school walls - well done to every one!

Exploring Music!

Emily from Music Generation has been doing amazing work with our students on their DJ and Music Production Skills! We are really proud of our students who completed their DJ skills course to get their DJ licences.

A Visit to Dail Eireann!

A few of our students headed into Leinster House with our Youth Worker, Dave, for a private tour with one of our local TDs. A big thank you to Gary Gannon for the invite! Students had a great time - most particularly when they got to sit in the broadcasters chairs from RTE studios!

SLOT2 Mini Farm!

Glennon Hatching Project loaned us an incubator after the Easter Holidays with fertilised hens eggs inside. After a number of weeks of waiting patiently, six chicks hatched in the Principal's office! Students (and staff!!) have had a wonderful time monitoring the chicks' development over the past number of weeks, weighing them every day and observing their newborn fluff developing into feathers! One of our students undertook a DIY project to build them a larger pen for use as they grew bigger! The chicks will soon head back to their permanent home on the farm - I know every one will miss Steady Eddie, Captain Peckerson, Mike, Bob Marley, Jackson, and LJ!

Graduation

One of the proudest moments of the school year is also the saddest - graduation. We had a lovely graduation ceremony this year to wish our graduation students well as they move on to their next steps in education. Massive thank you to Sonia for organising the catering, the whole staff team and Father John Ennis for helping to organise the event and all the parents, guarduans, siblings and grandparents who came along.

Message from The Principal

I want to say a special thank you to every one in our school community this year. It's been a pleasure to come on board and work with the incredible team at SLOT2! As well as thanking the staff team, I'd like to say a big thank you to our wonderful students for their effort this year and to the parents for their ongoing support of the school. I'd like to wish every one a safe and happy summer holiday. We can't wait to welcome you all back in September! Keep an eye on the school website for next year's calendar!
