It has been a very bust few months here at SLOT2, so many wonderful things have happened at the school!

Coding Club Goes to Trinity!

We are so incredibly proud of Ricardo and Lennon, who have been working with Ben, from the Pytch project in Trinity College to develop their own video games. Ricardo and Lennon used the Pytch platform as a bridge between Scratch and Python to create incredible games. Their games were showcased in an event in the coding lab in Trinity. Well done!

Home Economics and Woodwork rollout

This year we have added to new subjects to our curriculum and have gained two amazing new teachers! Home Economics students are working hard on their cookery skills with Brenda in St. Laurence O'Toole Recreation Centre, who have loaned us a kitchen. We are so grateful to the local community for helping us to provide this subject to our students!
Meanwhile, one of our cabins has been transformed into a mini Woodwork room and students are working hard with Steven to create all sorts of amazing pieces and learning lots about trees and nature.

Athletics Goes on Tour

Clare, Dave and Suzie were delighted to take the first ever Athletics team from our school to an inter-schools competition. Emmanuel, Daniel and Lennon competed in the East Leinster Schools' Competition in the worst possible weather conditions! Well done to the students (and staff!) for braving such extreme weather. The lads finished their races in impressive teams and represented their school brilliantly!

Dave's Room - Student Takeover!

In September, we took part in a research project with UCD about what helps students to work well in settings like ours. As part of the research, we learned that one thing our students wanted was an upgraded chill out space at school. The Board of Management gave the students a budget to do up Dave's room, and the students are now working with Lilliane, an artist who got in touch with us through the Hugh Lane Gallery, to give Dave's room a total makeover. Staff cannot wait for the big unveiling in April or May to see what the students have come up with!
